How much are sound and light show tickets in Egypt?
Official tickets for foreign visitors are $20 for adults at Giza, Karnak, Philae and Abu Simbel, $15 at Edfu and $25 at Qaitbay Citadel. Children aged 6 to 12 pay $11 ($8 at Edfu, $14 at Qaitbay). Egyptian press reported EGP 1,000 for foreign adults and EGP 100 for Egyptian adults at Karnak in April 2026.
Packages with hotel pickup, a guide or dinner cost more than the bare ticket, and some hotels and agencies add taxes and service charges, so always compare what is included. Our Giza evening tour (hotel pickup and drop-off in Cairo or Giza, air-conditioned vehicle and entry tickets) starts at €48 per person.
What are the show times and languages?
The operator publishes a weekly timetable for each site. Shows are narrated in up to 10 languages, and each session has its own language:
- Karnak: 20:00 English every day; 21:00 all languages (Thursday: Arabic).
- Philae: Monday and Friday 20:00 English, 21:00 all languages · Tuesday to Thursday 20:00 French, 21:00 Spanish · Saturday 20:00 all languages, 21:00 Arabic · Sunday all languages at both times.
- Abu Simbel and Edfu: 20:00 and 21:00 every day, all languages.
- Qaitbay Citadel (Alexandria): 20:30 and 21:30 every day, English–Arabic. Translation headsets are handed out against a passport or a guide ID.
- Giza Pyramids: the operator’s page shows no timetable. Operators report winter sessions between 18:30 and 20:30 and later starts in summer and Ramadan, each session in a different language. Our evening tour leaves your hotel at 18:30 or 19:30, and we confirm the language before you pay.
Egypt changes its clocks with the seasons and the shows move by about an hour with them, so check the timetable again close to your date.
Is there a minimum number of guests for the second show?
Yes. The second nightly show runs only when enough tickets are sold, but shows booked through the operator’s website are held without a limit. This is why booking ahead matters:
- Giza: 5 foreigners or 5 Arabic tickets (Thursday is a full show).
- Karnak and Philae: 5 foreigners.
- Edfu: 6 foreigners or 10 Egyptians.
- Qaitbay Citadel: 6 foreigners or 20 Egyptians.
- Abu Simbel: first show 50 Egyptians or 10 foreigners; second show at least 10 tourists.
Which sound and light show is best?
- First time in Egypt: Giza. The three pyramids and the Sphinx are lit and lasers cross the plateau (about one hour).
- Temples and a walk: Karnak. About 75 minutes: roughly 45 walking through the halls, then 30 seated facing the Sacred Lake.
- Most romantic setting: Philae, the island temple of Isis in Aswan. Ask about the evening boat when you book.
- Remote and rare: Abu Simbel, 280 km from Aswan, best combined with an overnight stay.
- Lowest price: Edfu at $15, the temple of Horus between Luxor and Aswan.
- On the Mediterranean: Qaitbay Citadel in Alexandria, $25, with translation devices.
How long does it take and what should I bring?
Plan about one hour for the show itself (Karnak about 75 minutes) and 2 to 3 hours including transfers. Evenings are cool from October to March, so bring a warm layer, and wear comfortable shoes at Karnak, where you walk between halls.
How do you get to each show?
We run private fixed-price transfers across Egypt, so you can reach every show and return to your hotel:
- Giza Pyramids: Cairo Airport to Giza Pyramids transfer · Sphinx Airport to Giza Pyramids transfer
- Karnak (Luxor): Luxor Airport to Luxor City transfer · Hurghada to Luxor transfer
- Philae and Abu Simbel (Aswan): Aswan Airport to Aswan City transfer · Aswan to Abu Simbel transfer
- Qaitbay Citadel (Alexandria): Alexandria airport to city transfer
